Flirting

2006-06-21

The Social Issues Research Centre Guide to Flirting.

“Research has also shown that men have a tendency to mistake friendly behaviour for sexual flirting.
This is not because they are stupid or deluded, but because they tend to see the world in more sexual terms than women.

There is also evidence to suggest that women are naturally more socially skilled than men, better at interpreting people’s behaviour and responding appropriately.
Indeed, scientists have recently claimed that women have a special diplomacy gene which men lack.”.

The color of the bikeshed

2006-06-10

Why Should I Care What Color the Bikeshed Is?

“The really, really short answer is that you should not.

This is a metaphor indicating that you need not argue about every little feature just because you know enough to do so.
Some people have commented that the amount of noise generated by a change is inversely proportional to the complexity of the change.”.

100

2006-06-09

(This is the post number 100).

I always liked to imagine myself working in a radio, playing records.
In my imagination, this radio is a quiet and little room, isolated and nearly dark, where only a single person can stay: with a table lamp, just to read the titles.

As I said, I used to imagine me there, in a dim light, with my records.
I have usually thought, also, that I would not like to speak so much. Indeed, I would rather try to speak less than possible.

Speaking to fill the time, I don’t know how to deal with this. This need that certain style, and it seems to me to add uselessly things, things just explain themselves.
Actually, I never worked in a radio. I have this site.

Know Who You’re Dealing with – Do Not Offend the Wrong Person

The Straight Dope

2006-06-07

What are the dreams of the blind like?

If all Chinese jumped at once, would cataclysm result?

Which will keep you drier, running through the rain or walking?

The Straight Dope: home of Cecil Adams’ weekly question and answer column “fighting ignorance since 1973 (It’s taking longer than we thought)”.

What’s Cecil really like?

“Only his editors really know.
When you ask them, their eyes glaze, their bodies become rigid, and they start to spit.
They are struggling to express their joy, we figure. More than that we cannot say.”.
